Ida-Londonist pärit DJ Ritu alustas oma karjääri popmuusika DJ-na aastal 1986, kui Islington'i uus global beats klubi Asia avastas noore Ritu ning lennutas ta raketina maailmamuusika skenele. Kogudes tuntust Aasia muusika eksperdina, sai temast esimene DJ, kes tegeles Aasia soundi tutvustamisega mitmetes riikides. 1994. aastal kaasasutas ta OutCaste Records'i ning sõlmis plaadilepigud Badmarsh (&Shri) ning Nitin Sawhney'ga. Ritu algatusel sündis ka Club Outcaste ning just tema koostas leibeli esimesed kaks kogumikku. Seejärel sai temast UK esimese iganädalase Aasia klubi Bombay Jungle resident. Peale edukaid esinemisi 90.ndate maailmamuusika konverentsidel nagu Womex, sai alguse Ritu esimene bänd, The Asian Equation. Tema teine bänd, Sister India sündiski The Asian Equationist ning sai kiiresti kultuslikuks kogu maailmas. Ritu on solo DJ-na ning intensiivse bänditegevusega tuuritanud Istanbulist Cape Town'ini ning esinenud Royal Festival Hall'ist kuni WOMAD festivalini. Ta haldab ka kolme Londoni ööklubi - Kuch Kuch, Kali ja Hoppa, kõik need on pühendunud Türgi, Kreeka, Araabia ja Aasia helidele. East London born DJ Ritu began her career as a pop music DJ in 1986. She attracted the attention of the new global beats' club ASIA in Islington that propelled her into the world music scene. Gaining a reputation as an Asian music expert she began touring abroad, becoming the first DJ to introduce Asian sounds in many countries. In 1994, she co-founded Outcaste Records. She instigated Club Outcaste and compiled the label's first two compilation CDs. After performing at world music conferences like WOMEX in the 90s, Ritu was commissioned to create her first band, The Asian Equation. Sister India, Ritu's 2nd band was born out of The Asian Equation, but with a stronger female focus, and gained a cult following worldwide. With solo DJ bookings and intense band activity Ritu has toured from Istanbul to Cape Town, and performed at venues from the Royal Festival Hall to WOMAD festival. Lately, Ritu has presented her Asian specialist show for BBC 3 Counties Radio. She has contributed to BBC World Service, Radio 2 and 3, Kiss 100, and Club Asia. She manages London club nights Kuch Kuch, Kali, and Hoppa, all dedicated to Turkish, Greek, Arabic, and Asian sounds. She has compiled numerous albums for The Rough Guides and contributes to various others. Her career has been one of many firsts.
