Free Tallinn Trio

Free Tallinn Trio is a unique combination of a singer with an exceptionally wide range of voice, Anne-Liis Poll, a classically trained piano virtuoso, Anto Pett, who has concentrated on free improvisation for the last 20 years, and a jazz guitarist, Jaak Sooäär, one of the best-known jazz musicians of the Baltics. The freely improvised music of Free Tallinn Trio could be described as contemporary impro chamber opera, but the main influences are derived simultaneously from contemporary music and modern jazz improvisation. The different backgrounds of the members lead the trio into unexpected adventurous territories and help to avoid typical clichés of free improvisation. All three members of the trio work as lecturers at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre. The trio has performed successfully at several European jazz festivals. Free Tallinn Trio has just released its second album "A Tale" under the British label Leo Records.
