Erilisel kohal on Eesti heliloojate uudislooming, näiteks Mari Vihmandi, Kristjan Kõrveri, Ülo Kriguli, Urmas Sisaski teosed. Pianistid Kai Ratassepp ja Mati Mikalai on püsivalt koos mänginud alates 1998. aastast. Muuhulgas on duole omistatud I preemia Münchenis toimunud 49. ARD (Saksamaa Ringhäälingute Ühenduse) muusikakonkursil (2000), ühel mainekamal omasuguste seas. Enne 2000. aastat anti klaveriduode kategoorias esikoht välja pea kolmkümmend aastat varem.

The piano duo Kai Ratassepp — Mati Mikalai is a chamber music ensemble highly praised home and abroad. While the gist of their repertoire consists of canonical selections from piano classics, they’ve been known to take on novel compositions for unusual combinations of instruments by modern Estonian composers now and then. The duo performs pieces for both two pianos as well as four hands. Covering musical ground from the 18th to the 20th century, by both classical as well as very present-day masters, the duo focuses on the current work by Estonian composers like Mari Vihmand, Kristjan Kõrver, Ülo Krigul and Urmas Sisask. Pianists Kai Ratassepp and Mati Mikalai have been playing together since 1998. Among other trophies, in 2000 the duo brought home the 1st prize from the 49th ARD (German Broadcasting Union) music competition — previously, the award in the category of piano duos had been issued almost 30 years earlier.
